The Special Election for the 12th congressional district seat was too close to call on Election Day. Results showed Republican Troy Balderson winning by a less than 2,000 votes with more than 8,000 absentee and provisional votes still to be counted.
“We have gone to every corner of this district,” said O’Connor at his watch party in Columbus Tuesday. “Because we know if you want to represent the seven counties of this district, in Congress, you need to fight for Muskingum County, you need to fight for Delaware County, you need to fight for Licking County, Morrow County, Marion County, Richland County, and Franklin County and that’s what we’re going to do.”
O’Connor also told the crowd that after some rest, it is time to focus on November. O’Connor’s huge campaign effort included hundreds of volunteers, including many in Delaware County, knocking on doors, handing out campaign literature, visiting community markets and more. The campaign will need that momentum to continue into the November election, where O’Connor will face the same opponent for the next two-year term.
